Up from the dust we rise
Slithering these same streets
To shed this self de-evolution
I need to break what’s broken
So I’m breaking down the broken
Shatter the pain we cling to
Every vibration spoken
Just bring it all right back to you
Smearing this dirt on myself
Footprints all across my face
Eyes blurred from scraping away at the truth
I need to break what’s broken
So I’m breaking down the broken
Shatter the pain we cling to
Every vibration spoken
Just bring it all right back to you
There is a brokenness
Out of which comes the unbroken,
A shatteredness
Out of which blooms the unshatterable.
A sorrow beyond all grief which leads to joy,
A fragility out of whose depths emerges strength
There is a hollow space too vast for words.
Through which we pass with each loss
Out of whose darkness we are santioned into being.
There is a cry deeper than all sound
Whose serrated edges cut the heart
As we break open to the place inside which is
Unbreakable and Whole!
While learning to sing.
So I’m breaking down the broken
Shatter the pain we cling to
Every vibration spoken
Just bring it all right back to you
